A Special Message About the Passing of Jim Griffin

Nestled in the Canisteo Valley of Upstate New York, Hornell has all the business performance capabilities of a large city,
but with the comforts and affordability of a smaller town.

Hornell is the perfect spot for your business

Medical
In March 2020, the new St. James Hospital opened. Through a partnership with UR Medicine, St. James has brought a host of healthcare services to Hornell, including primary care, general surgery, breast imaging and many specialty services. Our new 87,000-square-foot facility offers 15 inpatient beds, a state-of-the-art Emergency Department and Surgical Suite, lab services, a pharmacy, a complete range of advanced imaging services, infusion services, and much more.
Shopping
Hornell’s Main St. is a wide, tree-line street with numerous shops and services. The Hornell Plaza is at full occupancy with expansion plans in the works. Businesses include Wal-Mart, Wegman’s and Applebee’s, along with several smaller stores. Shoppers at the Hornell Rail Road Plaza enjoy a large Walgreen’s, Save-A-Lot Grocery and Tractor Supply.
Education

The Hornell City School District operates two primary schools, an intermediate school and a Jr./Sr. High School. High School students enjoy a cooperative program with nearby Alfred University and Alfred State College in which they may earn college credit in entry-level courses. There are also half-day vocational and occupational education programs at the BOCES Wildwood campus, as well as a cooperative program with Corning Community College.

St. Ann's Academy, a not-for-profit, non-public school, serves students in Pre-K through 6th grade. St. Ann’s Academy admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin.

Manufacturing
Rail manufacturer Alstom now employs more than 800 at its three Hornell-based plants, driving much of the recent growth, thanks in part to its $2.5 billion contract to build America’s first fleet of high-speed passenger trains. The work is causing a trickle-down effect and impacting growth at other local companies.
